From "SexyBack" to quarterback.
On Monday, ESPN announced that Justin Timberlake is reteaming with producer Timbaland to curate music for select "Monday Night Football" games throughout the 2023-24 NFL season. The music will be featured in promotional spots, live telecasts and pregame shows for seven weeks this season, starting with the Sept. 11 opener featuring the Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets.
The curation will kick off "Keep Going Up," a new single from Timberlake, Timbaland and singer Nelly Furtado that will be used in a Week 1 promotional spot.
Timberlake, Timbaland and Furtado last collaborated on the 2007 hit "Give It To Me," which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Timbaland has also produced many of Timberlake's biggest songs throughout his career, including "Cry Me a River," "Mirrors" and "Say Something," featuring Chris Stapleton.
“Football and music go hand-in-hand, like the iconic Timbaland and Justin Timberlake duo, who collaborate on music to near perfection,” Curtis Friends, ESPN's senior director of sports marketing, said in a statement. "ESPN’s 'Monday Night Football' music curatorship is popular with fans given the access this partnership provides to new and unexpected combinations of music with sport. We’ve had Diplo, DJ Khaled, Drake, and Marshmello and this fifth season, for the first time, we have two curators in Timbaland/JT we know will energize all us fans for this NFL football season.”
Justin Timberlake and Timbaland's music curation schedule for Monday Night Football:
- Week 1: Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets
- Week 6: Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Chargers
- Week 11: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs
- Week 16: Baltimore Ravens vs. San Francisco 49ers
- Week 18 Doubleheader: Teams TBD
- Wild Card Round (Postseason): TBD
- Divisional Round (Postseason): TBD
